Differenciating the publishing brands
To a large extent the different publishing brands of the Westermann group compete for the same school books and for the same subjects. Based on a market analysis it was decided to maintain these brands. But the brands profiles should be clearly different in order to better address different psychological customer groups.
In order to enhance the profiles of the 5 Westermann brands: Westermann, Schroedel, Diesterweg, Schöningh and Winklers numerous workhops were held with editors and marketing people. For each brand a brand promise was formulated and on that basis the brand logos were redesigned and product designs revisited.
It was a real challenge to create design principles for the book covers permitting recurring elements for the publishing brand, the product brand, and the book series.
The publisher brands appear as independent entities at trade fairs and in the book shops.

The Westerman publishing group is located in northern Germany. It grew strongly in the last two decades. Today it has a wide portfolio of publishing houses providing teaching material and teaching games on all levels from kindergarden to high school.
