The brand positioning statement defines the unique selling proposition (USP) in contrast to the competition. It is not a technical description but an emotional one outlining the benefits to the customer. 

Reduced to a brief brand promise, the main idea of the brand must be catched  immediately. Often the brand promise serves as a claim in advertising as well.
